that was my reason for leaving Tiscali... but, I'm going back to them.
I also found that if you don't extend your contract with them (and stay on your rolling month basis) you will find that they are irratic with the speeds. As soon as you sign up with them for another contract the speeds return.
Bit naughty, but customer retention i suppose.

Tell me about it! The exchange is probably no more than 2 miles away as the crow flies but the housing development is a 'fill-in' so the cable route goes an awful long way (about 5km!) hence the lack of throughput.....

I got a cheque from tiscali for half my contract not so long ago as the speeds were so poor where i am.
IIRC they put me on a different stream (i have no idea what that means) and it had been fine for quite some time.
I've been month to month for 6 months now and will stomach the irratic behaviour for a little longer but resigning seems the cheapest option at the moment.

Only if the exchange is enabled for ADSL 2+ otherwise it's re-sold BT Wholesale product...
Guess which one Chorley is?

Re: UK: BT to roll out fibre! WooHoo!
I posted a link a while back for people to be able to check which operators are in their local exchange. O2 are in mine but only offer the Max product not 2+....
