Survivors TV Series

Do not know if anyone has spotted the preview adverts for this new series coming to BBC.

But for those of us over the age of 40 the name and idea may seem familiar as it is a remake of the original Survivors series that was aired in 1975 Survivors (the classic BBC TV drama series created by Terry Nation).

This was a fantastic series (IMHO), or at least series 1 & 2, 3 seemed a bit rushed to tidy up and present a happy ending. It should be interesting to see what they make of it as I have just recently finished watching them again on DVD (yes I really did like it). There were some issues with the original such as:
  • People were remarkably clean.
  • Toffs generally were good.
  • Poor were generally bad.
  • Middle were the people who got things done.
  • Every one spoke "rather posh".
However, that was TV in those days. Not to give too much away its a killer bug that wipes out the worlds population & how people cope.

Fingers crossed they do a good job.

Re: Survivors TV Series

I couldn't find a date either but this BBC - Press Office - Cast announced for BBC One's Survivors is a nice introduction providing some of the cast and giving a quick summary of who all the characters are.

Basically its dawn of the dead but without the silly zombies and will probably be based on SARS / bird flu to keep it up to date.

It comes from a very good writer - Terry Nation (Dr Who)

Oh yes I know Terry Nation, the guy who created the Daleks. I'll certainly be watching out for this one with great interest!

The trailers look promising, added to my list on Windows Media Centre to fill up yet more disk space for a year or two till I get round to watching it

Re: Survivors TV Series

There was a review of this on Radio 4's Front Row last night. I missed the first minute or two but it seemed the two reviewers had seen the feature length opener from this Sunday and the first episode "proper" to be shown next week. The general impression seemed to be very positive. They commented that it was quite slow paced but deliverately so and that this was a good thing. Good performances, good script. They sounded like they were both looking forward to the rest of the series.

The one thing that put me off was their constant referral to Lost, to which they thought it held more than a passing resemblence.
