Re: X-Box 360 - Team 4WM?

Updated my list too, I've traded a few away including CoD3 without every actually playing it as I've now got it for PS3 instead

I wasn't too impressed by CoD3, CoD2 was better IMHO, CoD4 is out next month and the multiplayer beta was SUPERB! My pennies will definitely be going on it!

Halo 3 is excellent. Much better than the other 2. The 4 player co-op is absolutely superb, SO much going on, I'm amazed the machine can handle it all, even being a gen 3 box. I'm pretty certain there is no other experience like it. Awesome. On legendary the skill level is excellent. Very tough, but always just about possible.

Re: X-Box 360 - Team 4WM?

I read the review in the official mag and despite the fact that they gave it a good score the content of the review was far from convincing. To summarise its main points:

1. The game is just like the past two
2. The graphics aren't as good as they might be cos they've concentrated on getting more going on instead
3. The single player game has about 8 hours of gameplay
4. Multiplayer is great.

Hmmm, I don't normally bother with multiplayer (mainly cos I don't have enough time to spare getting good at the games in the first place) so I'm just not feeling it.

1. I guess it depends what you mean. I liked Halo2, but found some parts to be too hard and/or too repetitive. I'm now 2/3 of the way through the campaign on Legendary on Halo 3 and am enjoying the campaign as much as GoW (which I loved!). Story wise if you hated Halo 1 and 2, this last part is a better story line and the cut scenes are the best I've seen, but it's still Halo. If you hated it before you'll likely hate it now.

2. Basically what they've said is that they're not running it at 1080 so they can keep the frame rate up. Sounds rubbish, but it looks awesome in a different way. There's always so much going on. In the first Scarab battle there has to be 50 troops, 20 spaceships, 10 quads and 10 ghosts, all on the screen at once with fire all over the place and it runs with 4 players on co-op simultaneously without skipping a beat. The backdrops are superb, especially the jungle levels, the way the scenery reacts like when you run through the ferns is cool. I think graphically it's still breath taking at several points and whereas GoW feels cramped and tight in the streets (as it's supposed too) the scale of Halo is stunning. Great big battles in great big arenas. Quality.

3. If you put it on easy and run through it then there's about 8 hours of gameplay. What's the point in that though? We're just about hitting 20 hours on the campaign on legendary, with a third to go, and we're quite good. My mate at work has put the same in and is about half way through because he and his mate aren't so good. I reckon by the time I've done legendary and then rattled through again to pick up what I've missed I'll have done 40 hours on it.

4. The multiplayer is excellent because the Trueskill stuff actually works. With the combined rank and skill levels you tend to actually play against people the same level as you. I played on my mate's xbox using his profile a couple this weekend for a couple of games and found the opposition easy, with his skill level being a fair bit lower than mine. Gamewise I think I preferred CoD4 and GoW, but having some guy get 50 kills when everyone else gets 3 kinda spoils games. The Trueskill stuff definitely make it a more even battlefield.

Do you mean the bit in the barracks Wirral when all the flying beaties come at you from the skylights in the roof? If so it's easiest to stay in the corridoor with the battle rifle and take them out one by one.

Re: X-Box 360 - Team 4WM?

I wonder why the mag didn't bother to explain things that well!

I'm not a huge FPS fan, although things like Far Cry, Call of Duty 2 and Half Life 2 definitely do it for me but the Official 360 mag review just sounded like they wanted to slag it but MS wouldn't let them, lots of negatives but a 9/10 score. I'm now left scratching my head what to think about PGR4, it got a great review and 10/10 but I can't exactly rely on the mag if I'm prepared to disregard the Halo review.

Personally I usually play through first time on easy anyway mainly due to the time thing, then go back and play selected bits on the higher difficulty levels. From your comments Dave I'd say it sounds pretty good, I'm sure my boy's would like the multiplayer stuff but I think I'll probably wait, I've already spent quite enough on toys this week and I still have a lot of games (including GoW & CoD3) that I haven't played at all yet.

Re: X-Box 360 - Team 4WM?

To be honest I don't rate the Xbox mag for its reviews. I think the review content is often quite poor and it doesn't seem like the really take the time to get into a game before they review it. The often just pick at one single point in a game that irks them or they love, without looking at it overall.

I generally find the IGN reviews to be the best, more thorough, less biased and agree with my own tastes a lot more. I buy the xbox mag for when I don't want to look at a laptop. It bugs me when games get 10/10 out of principal. The perfect game? Take Bioshock for example. 10/10 but there's no multiplayer, no coop and only about 10 hours of campaign time. Personally I didn't even really rate the campaign by the time I'd finished it. Compare it to Gears and it just doesn't come close, but apparently it's the perfect game!

IGN have given PGR4 a 9.1 and from the review that sounds about right. Check it out here:

Re: X-Box 360 - Team 4WM?

The IGN Halo 3 review is about right I'd say, except the bit where they say the Bioshock graphics were great (WTF?). Check it out here:
