Palm Treo 500v available SIM Free

Palm have decided to make the Palm Treo 500v, Windows 6 standard-powered smartphone available without a contract for the first time in the UK. The ultra-small, ultra-slim phone with the standard Treo QWERTY Thumb-board will cost just £269, which is pretty competitive when compared with it's HTC S7XX rivals.

It is competetive because it basically is a HTC device. I don't see that much difference between the Treo 500 and HTC S620. I used to have a Treo 750 which was really good with the altered software this seems to be standard WM6 with no Palm adaptations. So should be the same as the S620.

And a nice amount of memory available. Funnily enough, I've got dual APNs on my Blackberry SIM, and I've been asked to retry the WM device I was given at work, as they want me to cease the BB service. One of the reasons I haven't is the intranet access is quite useful via the BB.

I know the new Systems Management Server for Mobile Devices will provide proper VPN and I will ask them about that, but the support team have described a way that I can access the intranet via the Web Browser using my secur-id card. So I popped the BB sim back into the HTC S620 and gave it a go, it is a bit slower and clunkier than the intranet access on the BB, but it is usable...

So, watch this space, I may be fully WM soon......

Why is it only WM6 Standard - isn't that a non-touch screen smartphone?

Yep, but that does work well as a messaging device. I've been using the S620 for a day an I'm pleased with the performance..... I could well replace the device with the Palm for the increased memory....

i may well do away with the Blackberry at this rate....

The main advantage of the Treo 500 is also the low weight. Furthermore the keyboard is comparable to the Treo 750, which is very good.

I wonder if on this unbranded version also the vodofone interface is on, in some way or that it's completely left out.

However I always come back to the HTC S620, with it's very sleek form factor en astonishing keyboard.
