I do, with Safeboot. But that has to be bought and maintained, and it's yet another (complex & renewable) password to keep track of. No such hassles with the Redfly.

What about your device anyway? What's protecting that?.

Physically, the phone, and thus my data, goes straight in my pocket if I leave my desk or seat. Can't do that with a laptop.
Electronically, the enforced security policy from my exchange server, strong password with remote wipe. Plug in the Redfly, enter the phone password on its keyboard, bingo, you're up and running. Too many retries, or remote wipe, instant hard reset, you're safe.

2. A 6 cell battery or an eee 901 will do this for you..

At a higher cost, and with the added complexity of running two machines (and application + data sets) instead of one.

Ok, I've got one for you. What happens if you lose or damage your phone? The Redfly is pretty useless then.

Being unable to use the Redfly without the phone can actually be an advantage, 'cos it's useless to anyone else too. Sounds like you're expecting your laptop to be a backup to your phone. Are you taking regular backups of that up too?
The Redfly is not supposed to be all-singing and dancing, or all things to all men (or women), like a general purpose laptop. It's aimed at those who use their smartphone as their main device when away from home/office, but need the convenience of a bigger screen, keyboard and battery to make that easier. With the added security of using a single source of data which is easily backed up OTA via Exchange etc. (and back at base, on a host PC). Keeps life straightforward and simple.
Admittedly way overpriced to begin with, but with the current offer, I think it's hitting the mark.
