Activesync and data problem

I need the help and experiance of WM users.

I want to delete the activesync relationship on my O2 Orbit 2, but don't want it to delete any of the data that it has, i.e contacts, emails, calender entries etc.

I will be creating a new relationship with a different computer and I understand that you can only have 1 activesync relationship at any time.

Does anyone know how I can remove the relationship without removing the data?

Cheers in Advance

Re: Activesync and data problem

On the PPC go to;

Start->Programs->active Synch-> Menu->Options

The connection with your PC should be listed. Highlight this and hit delete. All the info wil remain on your device.

I would always advise taking a full backup with either Sprite or SPB Backup before making major changes like this. That way, should the worst hapen, your data can be restored in a few seconds. It's saved my bacon on a few occasions

I've tried that but it deletes all my contacts and calender/task items as well which is something that I would like very much to avoid.

Hi Graffen,

What you state above is not strictly true!

You can have two ActiveSync partnerships on a device in addition to an Exchange server relationship (3 in total).

This will sync all details (calendar, contacts, tasks, files etc) EXCEPT e-mail. This can only be synced with one relationship whether that be Exchange, Partnership 1 or Partnership 2.

So you should be able to connect your device to the other PC and set up a partnership and it will copy all your contacts, calendar etc. items into Outlook on the new PC.

Re: Activesync and data problem

I think ActiveSync has a problem copying items from a PPC to a PC when a new partnership is created There is an option for 'Merge Items' but it isn't very reliable. You would run the risk of A/S overwriting all your PPC stuff with the blank PC folders.

If you are changing PC's, then the best option is probably to open Outlook on the 1st PC, and use the File/Import & Export function to make a backup copy of your Outlook data (remember in the last screen to collapse the folder tree, select My Mailbox and tick 'Include Subfolders'); you can then copy the resulting backup.pst file to the new PC, then do a File/Import and Export/Import/Personal Folders File to import all your data to the new PC. Ensure that the imported data is all correct in the default profile.

Once that's done, connect the PPC to the new PC and create a partnership, during which the conflict wizard will ask you what to do- select Replace Items on My Device, and your stuff should sync OK.

You will already have the backup.pst file as a precaution, but I'd also suggest backing up the PPC just in case!
