RSS feeds on HTC S730 (Volans).

I have been trying to get podcasts on my new HTC S730 (Volans). I can get the feed subscriptions to work through the RSS Hub application. But the mp3 files which get downloaded don't run on the phone. I have tried a number of other applications but nothing seems to work. Any help would be great!
Thanks
Ian H

Hi IanH,

One question, do you use iTunes on your PC at all? I may have an alternative way to get your podcasts, it's the route I use but does require you to use iTunes. I don't use anything on the device to download them myself!

Have you tried Newsbreak from Ilium - its on a 55% discount until 6th June so if you are quick you could do a quick test first.

Jim - I do use iTunes on the PC but couldn't work out how to put them onto my phone. Tips would be great.

Mailman - I did load Newsbreak as well as PocketPlayer. Its just that neither worked. Not much of a review I'm afraid!.

Thanks Gents,
Ian

You have had lots of suggestions for alternatives, but let's go back to your basic problem. I use the RSS Hub app included in the ROM of my Orbit 2, and have no difficulty in playing the downloaded files. So either the player on your device has a problem, or the files you are getting are the wrong sort.

So first question, what is the podcast that you are getting files from?
A good test would be for you to add a podcast that I know gives me files I can use. Try From Our Own Correspondent as the source url.

Next question, what happens when you try to play a file?

Next thing, let's examine the files you do get. Mine live in Storage Card\Program Files\RSS Hub\ChannelData. Yours may be on the device instead of the card - if so running out of space could be a problem.
Find one of the downloaded mp3 podcast files and move it to a different folder. Then try opening it on your device by opening every Media player program you have, navigating to the file and asking for it to be played. What happens and which programs have you tried?
Copy the file to your computer. Can you play it there?

Ian
The new Pocket Tunes 4 comes with iTunes sync, which allows you to synchronise Music/Podcasts from your iTunes library with your WM device. I've been using it since the beta phase to synchronise my podcasts to my devices, it works extremely well.

This allows me to use iTunes to do the grunt work of collecting my podcasts, and then connect my device and use Pocket Tunes 4 & iTunes sync to copy them over to my device for playing. Not a lot of use if you want to download them on the road, well, unless you have iTunes on a laptop!

You can find Pocket Tunes 4 here!

Re: RSS feeds on HTC S730 (Volans).

Thanks to all for your help.

Having followed Cyclists tip to change to saving the file on the card, RSS Hub now works!

Again, thanks for a great response

Ian

Re: RSS feeds on HTC S730 (Volans).

Pleased to help.
I will take a guess that your problem was not enough space to save the files.
