Power usage software?

Is there a piece of software out there that will tell me what my power consumption is?

I was using my Tytn II with TomTom 6 last weekend to navigate up to the lakes for a short break. I was using the internal GPS reciever.

Once my battery low warning came on I plugged in my in car charger (cheap lighter to USB adapter and USB lead to Tytn II).

It was charging for a good hour yet the battery level did not go up at all. I had to leave it in the car with no software running so that it would get a bit of a charge in it.

It seems that the power consumption with internal GPS and TT6 is pretty much equal to the power used to charge the battery from the power lead.

Is this right or should the charger still be able to recharge the battery even with GPS and everything else running?

Re: Power usage software?

The Tytn II is pretty high usage power wise with the GPS and screen going but I would have thought you'd get some charge out of it. What power rating (mAh or A) is your car charger and where did you get it from?

I agree with wavey, you should be getting some charge into the device, must be an inferior charger.

Edit:- Just an after thought do you have any other programs running in the background that may need closing down?

Re: Power usage software?

I have PointUI running as well.

The charger is a Poundland one that my mate picked up for me as my original one fell apart. I looked on the packaging for any power output details and there was nothing.

I think I am going to have to stump up the cash and pay out for a proper charger.

Yes I think that will solve your problem.

Re: Power usage software?

I use the Motorola RAZR car charger fot my power hungry Ameo and it works well with GPS running at full screen brightness.

Re: Power usage software?

You'll want to get a charger that will provide 1A. It's likely the charger you have is probably 750mAh or 0.5A but not 1A.
