or better still, does anyone know how to turn it off?

As far as I know (and boy did I look long and hard into this one), there is NO way to turn off or clear the recently opened program list. You can edit the registry to delete the recently opened programs list but it just comes back again. I personally use wisbar advance 2 which allows you to exclude recently used program list

I don't know how to turn it off....
but there is a tweak in Tweaks2k2.net that allows you to clear the recently opened programs list.

Re: Clearing Recent Programs From Start Menu

I have found that if you create subfolders under the Programs folder, then cut and paste all of your icons into the subfolders, then the Recent Programs will stay cleared out.

On my PPC, the Recent Programs only show programs that have been recently run, but only those directly in the Programs folder.

So, you could leave one shortcut (say File Explorer) under the Programs Folder and put all other icons in subfolders. Then, the only program that will show up in the Recent Programs is File Explorer.

Hi Smeagol- welcome to 4WM, and thanks for a useful tip as your 1st post!

Not tried it yet myself, but could be useful!
