Help me "Configure Server" in ActiveSync

I successfully connected my K-JAM with the laptop using Windows Mobile Device Centre (Windows Vista), I can install softwares, can browse, copy/paste files from/to mobile, but Contacts and other synchronization fails with the following...

Error on PC:
- - - - - - - -
Your account information could not be detected. Choose Configure Server on the ActiveSync menu to check your Exchange Server credentials.

Error on Mobile:
- - - - - - - - - - -
Result: Your account information could not be detected. Choose Configure Server on the ActiveSyn menu to check your Exchange Server credentials.

Support Code: 0x85003009

On the PC, under Mobile Device Settings-> Change Exchange Server Settings, i've entered Computer Name, the Administator login id and password and <blank> in Domain field, but when i try to save these settings, it says "The Exchange Server account COMPUTER-NAME could not be verified using the login credentials you provided."

Now, i totally don't have any idea what to do to "fix" this; can some guru help me please? I have about 450 contacts and no backup (!!!)

Re: Help me "Configure Server" in ActiveSync

The domain field can not be blank, it must have something in there for the data to be saved.

If you're using a local account then the domain name will be the name of the machine. If you go Start-Run-cmd-ok then type hostname and hit return it should tell you the name of the pc if you don't know it.

Re: Help me "Configure Server" in ActiveSync

Are you actually using a Microsoft Exchange system on your PC, or are you using Outlook in 'stand alone' mode on the PC

If the latter, which is how most people operate, you should not be configuring any server information because A/S does it for you. If that is the case, you need to remove any partnerships in ActiveSync on the PC, and delete all partnerships on the PPC (ActiveSync/Status/Delete I think- may be wrong, but don't have PPC to hand at present). Now reconnect and go through the Partnering process again, and if prompted, select to Sync contacts, calendar, email etc with Windows PC.

If you are using an Exchange Server, we need a few more details about the credentials to guide you through the settings

I have nothing to do with any Exchange server, but Active Sync on my Orbit 2 insists on telling me my Exchange server setup is wrong. I simply cannot find any way to DELETE this configuration. I don't want any Exchange server setup WHATSOEVER, I just want to sync to my Windows PC - nothing more, yet I get an error every time due to this Exchange server configuration problem.

Can someone please explain how to actually DELETE this, or at least disable in some way so that it doesn't think it's trying to sync to an imaginary server all the time it's connected.

BTW, I am using Vista so on the PC it's Windows Mobile Device Centre and not ActiveSync.

Re: Help me "Configure Server" in ActiveSync

you could try the following:

on the device, (remove all cables connected to PC) start ActiveySync
Menu> Options
In there you may see Microsoft Exchange and Windows PC.

Windows PC is your Outlook on your PC.
Microsoft Exchange... if you are certain you are ok to delete this just highlight the "Microsoft Exchange" line and click DELETE button.

Let us know how you get on.
