I can only speak of CPL7 but that will look for the internal GPS. However you can manually configure the GPS so you should be able to use the external unit if you so wish.

The question is whether I can use the external GPS or will Copilot recognise the onboard receiver and default to that. I presume that reception will be better using the external device so I would choose to use that in the car and the internal device on my motorbike and walking.

Has anyone had any experience of this scenario yet?
I found the internal GPS on the Kaiser to be excellent and perform better than the external devices I've used. Power up to lock can be less than 10 seconds which is excellent. Copilot 6 is used on the Orbit with an internal GPS receiver and it picks it up easily so I presume this will be the same for the Kaiser.

Re: O2 Xda Stellar Review

Hi frankwilliams977,

The Stellar (TyTn II/Kaiser) does not have an FM radio and the answer to the last question is YES and NO!

The TyTn II and its derivatives are pretty recent to market (last couple of months) but there are always new HTC designs coming to market and obviously those from other manufacturers too. Some will be similar to the Kaiser some very unlike (i.e., no hardware keyboard etc.)

Re: O2 Xda Stellar Review

Well, I've just ordered my Stellar from O2 following all the reviews here. Phone arrives tomorrow!

Although it has GPS am I right in thinking I still need to purchase the navigation software and maps? Also, should I get that on CD and load it onto my laptop or on SD card and plug it into the Stellar. Finally, which is the best navigation system? TomTom, CoPilot, Garmin?

Look forward to some help.

Thanks!

Re: O2 Xda Stellar Review

Yes, you will need to buy the GPS software, but it is up to you whether you buy it on SD or CD. Both ways work. As for the software selection I rate the latest version of Copilot. There is a review of it here:

Headline differences: Stellar has a keyboard, Orbit 2 doesn't. Orbit 2 has an FM radio, Stellar doesn't. For more depth study the specs in the reviews on this site.

Re: O2 Xda Stellar Review

Personally I hated the Orbit. Couldn't get on with the track ball at all. The Orbit 2 seems much better from the little time I've spent with it.
