I have had a few electronic diaries, psions and a windows CE machine in the distant past and never really embraced them - allways felt they were lacking. I also hated the idea of touting round both a PDA and a mobile phone.

Last year i saw the Orbit 1 in action when it first came out (thanks Daron !) and was immediately sold on the idea so i bought one and have been completely delighted with it. Its the first "pocket device" thats ever properley impressed me, thanks to its all round abilities as phone, pda, sat nav, wi-fi internet browser etc,etc

I have just upgraded to the Orbit 2 and its even better. You wont be dissapointed with yours.

I am not a keybord fan either, but the big button xt9 virtual keyboard in the Orbit 2 works pretty well. After much experimentation on my Orbit 1, i settled on the SPB Full Screen Keyboard which is cheap (about £5 as i recall) and it works very well - i can type and text at very decent speeds with it.

Handsfree and

Hi all, been using my new Orbit 2 for about 2 weeks now, really impressed, as I have been waiting for a device this strong in all areas; a couple of questions tho (TIA); I am using a Brodit holder for the car, with a ciggie charger, but no audio passthru - I seem to be unable to find a setting to allow the phone to be in a handsfree mode when in the car (no headset attached or bluetooth) - just want to be able to press a key for inbound call to be answered and then have the audio come thru the phone - at present I have to press another button to get "Speaker ON"; as you know this would make it illegal to use whilst driving as you are only allowed to touch the device once.

Also, my only gripe, being a bit deaf, is that the speaker is on the rear of the device, and distorts by the time it is starting to get to a volume that I can hear; so, having bought a brodit holder with just charging option and no passthrough for the wired headset; can anybody make a suggestion how to get a passthru on and still charge the phone? I guess the best soln might be to get a proper blutooth headset.

Great forum btw and fab review too.

Re: Handsfree and

Yes, I would say either a bluetooth headset or an FM transmitter to put the audio through your car hifi.

I THINK there is a unit that plugs into the cigar lighter socket that has a USB port for charging AND does the FM transmitter bit, but I can't remember who makes it.

Re: Handsfree and

There were plans for Brodit to build Audio Out connectors into their brackets but HTC wanted a rather large fee for the connection licensing so the idea was dropped.

Re: Handsfree and

Hi

Congrats on the orbit 2, at last Brodit managed to come up with a holder that allows the 3 in 1 input after we asked them a while back, bets things come to those who wait as they say!

It allows you to plug in the following;

- Mini USB for charging
- 3,5 mm audio for sound out
- HTC Ext USB for original headset

These have just been released and we are interested to see what users of the HTC / Orbit 2 users think of them.

Here is a link to the product if that helps,

Thanks again all,

Brodit #849796 O2 XDA Orbit 2 Holder with 1-in-3 Adapter Mount

Re: O2 Xda Orbit 2 Review

this has to be the worst phone i have ever had, i have had pda phones starting with the p800 and so on up to the xda last year.
this new model you can not see the screen outside to unlock ( the 1st xda when pressed on in standby it lights up as if it was unlocked, which means you can see the screen out side to unlock ) the orbit 2 back light stays dark until you unlock the phone, which i found out last week when golfing in wales is impossible to do outside in daylight. the sound when using the sat nav is rubbish, can not hear instructions etc.

Re: O2 Xda Orbit 2 Review

I agree that the screen is not great when outside, but I manage to use mine ok, have you set the brightness to full? I totally disagree about the sound when using sat nav, I can hear mine easily have you turned the device volume up as well as the sat navs?
