Good thinking Dave, you still using the Zest as your main device?

Yeah, I just love it. It's easily the best bluetooth implementation on any WM device I've seen. Makes listening to music much better.

Re: O2 XDA Zest Review!

I have bought an XDA Zest just before Christmas. I do like it but the battery life seems to be poor. Although it doesn' seem to drain that badly when using some of the features it has a a habit of draining overnight. The last couple of nights it has had about 40% power in the battery. The flip is set to standby mode. When I wake up the phone has turned itself off and needs charging again.

I always leave my bluetooth and WiFi turned on. Should I turn these off and only use them when necessary?

Also someone mentioned that they have watched Youtube on this phone. I have tried this and watching iPlayer but don't seem to be able to get it supported properly. I am a bit dubious about downloading some freeware to help with this. Can anyone recommend a way of doing this?

Re: O2 XDA Zest Review!

Hi handyphilhendy and welcome to 4WinMobile. Leaving Bluetooth on all the time shouldn't really make too much difference to the battery. Bluetooth is pretty effecient and the Zest has one of the best Bluetooth stacks around.

Leaving WiFi on is a completely different matter as WiFi consumes a large amount of power even when it is not doing anything. I'd get that turned off whenever not in use. I use a piece of software from SBSH called PhoneWeaver. It is an automatic profile switcher and I have it set to turn off WiFi and Push Mail each evening at around 10pm and then turn it all back on in the morning. There is a trial available and it's well worth the couple of pounds purchase price.

There are other options but for YouTube/iPlayer (both of which use flash) but I have been using SkyFire. This is an Internet Browser that supports flash. It is currently a trial version and so free. I would expect the final version to cost but this Beta seems very good.

Thanks for this. I turned WiFi off last night and the battery hardly moved at all!!!

I have tried to download Skyfire but can't seem to get it to work. I have tried the phone option and via PC option but neither seems to setup correctly. Using the phone web browser it dosn't react when pressing the download button. I also had the same problem trying to download the keyboard recommendation in the article.

If anyone can help it will be much appreciated. I am quite new to this smartphone thing!!!

Re: O2 XDA Zest Review!

I did the "Install through PC" option, and then selected Windows Mobile 5 or 6 Touchscreen. Once downloaded I copied the "Skyfire-PPC.CAB" file to my MicroSD card and installed it to "My Device". It said it was unsupported in the UK but it works very well.

Re: O2 XDA Zest Review!

I emailed invisible shield given there coverings are best and received the following swift reply:

Thank you for contacting ZAGG, home of the invisibleSHIELD! My name is ***** and I appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

Thank you for your inquiry on an invisibleSHIELD for the XDA Zest. At the moment we do not have an invisibleSHIELD designed for this device. I have contacted our design team to see if the XDA Zest is a device we are interested in creating an invisibleSHIELD for. I should receive a response from our designers within 2 to 3 business days. Should this be a device we are looking for, I will contact you with further information.

If you do not hear from us within 5 business days, unfortunately, this means we will not be creating an invisibleSHIELD for the XDA Zest at this time.

Our design team is always working to expand our range of products. We have new designs each week, so please keep an eye on our website for updates!

Thank you for choosing the invisibleSHIELD. We appreciate your business!

All the best,

Re: O2 XDA Zest Review!

Thanks for the update about the case - much appreciated.
Re youtube on the zest - I've downloaded Skyfire browser which is really cool - the layout of it works really well and it's a lot easier to navigate than Opera and IE in my opinion.

However, on YouTube I can get the video on and playing but it's really 'jittery.' Is anyone else having the same problems? The video starts, and it's like my internet connection is too slow, which it shouldn't be.......

Any other tips around this would be really appreciated.

Also am I the only person who types the wrong words on txt messages - fat fingers?? I downloaded Resco keyboard which is excellent, much clearer buttons to use without the stylus but I'm still trying to get used to it the using a touch screen instead of regular keys I think....

Re: O2 XDA Zest Review!

I've been struggling with Resco Keyboard too. Have you tried PCM Keybaord I linked to in the review?

Re: O2 XDA Zest Review!

Which Skin do you use with PCM Dave? I've tried it in the past but found it less accurate than Resco - but that was with the default skin.
