The Zest is VGA, so you need to get one of the VGA skins. I use the Diamond skin personally.

Re: O2 XDA Zest Review!

Thanks for the tips re: WiFi, battery life is massively improved now that I keep this turned off unless I need it.

I downloaded the TouchPal keyboard and am using this as it gives a predictive text function. I think it is on a trial and I will pay for it as I have found it really good.

I have been using skyfire but I don't find it easy to use and struggle with you tube. I can't get anything when I try it on BBC site. It's not an important need but I like the idea of being able to TV catch up when commuting etc!

One other query I have would be with the GPS Sat Nav system. I've tried it a couple of times and found it quite good (better than my old Tom Tom that hasn't been updated for two years!!!). My question is to do with data usage. I am on an unlimited Web package with O2 but am concerned that this is not included. Does anyone know if the web data is different? I am worried that on a 2 hour journey it will end up costing more than my petrol to get there!!!

Apologies for the queries I am new to this smartphone lark!!! I do really like this phone though.

Re: O2 XDA Zest Review!

To get the BBC stuff running I think you have to install flash lite. Which Sat Nav system are you using? If you are using the Copilot trial it will only use your data allocation to check for traffic problems. The actual day to day running of the GPS system is free as it doesn't use online data at all.

Re: O2 XDA Zest Review!

Well I have just received my Zest, after using the Kaiser/Stellar

I'm missing the keyboard already

I seem to have messed it up by deleting the O2 menu system in remove programs and now nothing works.

I sort of like the O2 menu system but I can't see why there is 3 types of main screen displays. The Windows one, the O2 day screen and then the O2 'iphone' lookie likie style one.

The pop up key pad is not that good and no predictive text, as mentioned before.

I am going to install the one mention in the review.

Feel of it is light and plastic. They could have made it from that soft touch stuff and gave it a better feel.

I also DO NOT like the way the names do not appear when you type i the 'send to' section of SMS.

Can seem to get any YouTube to work.

Sound quality on calls is great though, although a better phone pad would be nice. I don't always only phone my contacts.

Now to find out how to hard reset it and see if I can get the O2 stuff back.

NO TV out cable came with mine.

The camera is still rubbish , I say still as I'm comparing it with the Kaiser one which was really pants.

Re: O2 XDA Zest Review!

I've read here that the zest is not carrier-locked.

Is this the case for the pay-as-you-go version?

And..

Is there any restrictions on internet access settings?
i.e. can one freely enter APN etc or is access to internet
restricted to o2 network?

Hi Ken- welcome to 4WM

As far as we are aware, there will be no differences between the PAYG and Contract samples of this phone, and the contract devices certainly are not carrier locked.

You would need to delete the O2 connection settings, but as with all WinMo devices, you are then free to enter whatever connection settings are relevant to your provider.

Even if, in the rare event it doesn't work, you decide not to keep the phone, you have 7 days in which to return it, so you could always hard reset it back to factory default and reject it.

The device is unrestricted, including the PAYG version. It is SIM unlocked and you can edit your network settings too.

Re: O2 XDA Zest Review!

I see from comments here that wm6 inbuilt
wordcompletion (and correction?,and shortcuts?) are disabled,
and that the xt9 system exists as a distinct input method.

I use block recogniser a lot
and I'd like to have the standard wm systems working with that.

(I did see your suggestion about proprietary keyboard)

I've had a look around about this,
and asked o2, but nothing definite.
Most promising seems to be xda-developers,
but no dedicated topic on the handset yet.
Some indication that such modifications are possible
with other wm devices.
(I suppose I could post!)

I note the point about try-and-return,
but has anyone has managed to do this yet?

Or any suggestions for where to look?

Re: O2 XDA Zest Review!

To be honest I'd noticed Block Recogniser was not included. I'll have a look and check on mine this evening to confirm it's no there already.

Hi every one,

Well mates, i am using this xda Zest with Movistar Spain, but i can't edit the network settings .
As soon as i do it, it not allow me to connect on usb cable/activesync.

If i add the gprs/wap connections from Telefonica/Movistar, as soon as i select those settings, it detect it and not allow me to connect.

If i delete the O2 settings, it detect it and not allow me to connect.

If i keep the O2 settings, but i edit the modem settings, it detect it and not allow me to connect.

By Wifi there is no problem at all.

Any help is wellcome.

Thanks.
