I think the button on the back is for the speaker phone. You may be able to assign it as OK I guess, but it wouldn't be ideal.

I think the contact card is good, but it's the way it ignores the OS owner information, effectively meaning you have to enter it twice that annoys me. Where TouchFlo has taken the OS and made it easier to use I like, but replacing the OS functionality entirely is not good in my opinon. Ideally it should use the owner information and then add a couple of fields itself instead of completely ignoring it.

That part I agree with 100% I always have my contact information in the phone as well and you should simply be able to select it as your own, or as you said at least use the owner information screen. Redundancy is not always a good thing.

Re: HTC Touch Pro 2 Review - A week in my life.....

You say 'proprietary' headset connector. Is this the usual HTC headset connector that looks like a mini USB? If so then have you tried any of the converters that do 3.5mm jack to HTC and do they work?
I'm considering this as an upgrade to my Orbit 2 which has that type of connector, and I have adapters already. By time spent audio is my most used app. Indoors I use Bluetooth but while cycling I find that I need the greater volume from a wired headset. If there is no adapter or I'm limited to some very expensive variety then I might wait to see what some of the alternatives have to offer. That lack of Dpad or OK button concerns me.

It is HTC's standard adapter Cyc, so any existing 3.5mm convertors you have should work.

Re: HTC Touch Pro 2 Review - A week in my life.....

Great review WaveyDavey and, I must say that, without having actually tried any of the newer devices, they don't tempt me at all. There really doesn't seem to be anything new on offer over and above my old Touch Cruise (Orbit II). Obviously, I'm now running an X1 but I didn't really consider that an upgrade. I just wanted a keyboard. As you say, the Touch Pro 2 really doesn't offer anything over and above that. Maybe smartphones are just reaching a level of maturity.

They have GPS, they have WiFi, they have 7.2MEG data, they have multi-Mega-Pixel cameras, they have CPU's in the 100s of MegaHerz, they have plenty of RAM and upto 32GB of storage (MicroSD), the have stero Bluetooth, MPS, Video.... What else is there other than refinements of the above?

I suppose AMOLED screens will be an improvement but hardly a revolution. I must admit that it has probably been 18 months since I saw a new device and thought "Oooh, I must have one of them because it's got.....".

Re: HTC Touch Pro 2 Review - A week in my life.....

The last big thing was GPS really. If you look at the Tytn II (HTC Kaiser) the Touch Pro and Touch Pro 2 have only been refinements of that design really. I admit that if I was still running a Tytn II I'd look at upgrading to a Touch Pro 2, but if I had a Touch Pro I'd be keeping it.

Re: HTC Touch Pro 2 Review - A week in my life.....

I have to agree- none of the current crop really do much for me. We have reached a level of maturity from the perspective of features. What we really need now is refinement in performance.

My hope is that the generation of devices about to be launched will see a major boost in both video performance and device responsiveness. The snapdragon processors and Qualcomm/ NVIDIA graphics chips should make that a reality, especially if the videos of the TG01 and Xperia X2 are genuine.

I haven't tried a TP2 or Diamond2 so can't comment specifically, but as they have the same processor as the Diamond1 and TP1 I can't see them being a lot better- and better they need to be

Re: HTC Touch Pro 2 Review - A week in my life.....

I'm thinking along those lines myself, I can see no reason to upgrade from the XDA Serra (TP1) unless Vodafone can offer me a really good new customer deal on a TP2, and that would be just for me to get the larger screen in all honesty I guess...

That's the main reason I'm buying Daron's Flint off of him, I make a lot of use of the Ameo and it's a natural progression... I did hanker after a HTC Snap as well, but the Flint won out from the I'll use it a lot perspective.

Did you decide to go for an abacus instead to satisfy your calculation requirements?
