No you're not

I had a sucker on my screen for a few hours in December and nothing I do can totally erase the mark (some sort of silicone grease around the edge to aid suction I think!) especially when the screen fogs slightly.

Probably not a problem in the Cessna

I now use a handily placed cupholder which my Proporta AluLeather case fits snugly into! (and I know the pic shows 'No GPS !!)

definitely a good idea with the cup holder, and, it just slides away when you're done! Fantastic. Having a distinct shortage of cupholders I think the sucker will still be the main runner on this one. I will clean it carefully though before using it for the first time. Is your windscreen thermally heated? Maybe the plastic layer got damaged if so?

New question though, can you use it in landscape mode or is it strictly portrait? I would have thought landscape would be better for satnav, but maybe that's just conditioning from looking at all the dedicated GPS systems...

Am wondering if I was a bit hasty buying it on Ebay though..I hope it's ok... I hate the days waiting after the auction to see if you will get a good one or if it will be in bits and all dirty and used looking...!

My screen isn't thermally coated- just bad luck I think!

TomTom works fine in Landscape mode on the N560- but I can't remember if it opens in LS mode if the screen is set to LS. If not, TTN has Rotate Screen in one of the Menu settings.

Hope the Ebay purchase is OK- if it says refurbished, then it ought to be pretty good, or you'd have cause for complaint. Don't give feedback till you're sure!

Don't worry I'll keep you all posted once I get it, and come back with what I think of it! If I have someone with me, or if not, when I get it all trimmed out nicely so I can take my hands off the controls, I'll take a picture of it too to show you what it looks like at 8000'!

Got it today. The courier bag had been dropped, so there it was split on the corner, and the box was wet, and the manuals were wet, I was gutted, but I opened it none the less, the unit itself was perfect, wrapped in it's tiny plastic bag. It came with one stylus, and a charger and a usb cable. one disk and a manual.

It's an absolute beaut! it's so tiny and light, in perfect condition, no scratches on the glass or on the back or sides of the unit, no fingermarks or signs of wear and tear. It is lightening fast, and put some music onto it and put it through speakers and it sounds great!

I still didn't get a 4 gig sd card.. really wish I had one. One of the guys in work gave me tom tom 6 to try out so I'll install that once I find an SD card and see if it's the way to go gps wise. Haven't installed pocketFMS yet but about to. Having big problems connecting to the internet though... it spends ages trying to connect then complains that it's not been assigned an ip address. does anyone know any way around it. Also, can anyone explain that thing bout the task bar manager and the slow satellite acquisition mentioned earlier in the post, how do i upgrade it or check my version etc?

Ok. there's an easy internet fix. push the off button for ages until it seems to freeze and then goes off. switch back on and click the wlan button. hey presto connected... hmm. don't understand it but i'm happy with it!

It's so exciting! does anyone know of an applet to help it play mpeg's, I don't think the included Media Player can handle them?

Is there a more suited forum to discuss the detail, I feel like I'm hijacking the thread here from the review to my personal QandA session! Please gently reprimand me if I should take these excited ravings elsewhere!

Glad your excited with your new N560 - I've had mine for over 3 months and I *still* think it is totally brilliant!

For all your music and video needs I strongly recommend TCPMP. It is way better than the built in media player...

I'm not sure about websites to get it from though as I don't seem to be able to connect to the TCPMP.org website. Search Google and you'll find the appropriate downloads - I recommend you also get all the additional codecs - they don't take up much space, and you never know when you'll need them...

There are loads of sites with free software for the PPC – again, Google is your friend!

Kind regards,

Andy Bruce

I'll agree with that bruisah, TCPMP is great... Much smaller memory footprint than WMP, and the audio quality is better....

Re: Fujitsu-Siemens Loox N560 Review

Just went off to find a link for you - you can get TCPMP version 0.71 from:

http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/0.71/

Other fantastic utilities/tips:

There's a thread somewhere on 4winmobile that leads you to a small application called KeyLightOff that allows you to turn off the LED lights (power, LAN, Bluetooth, and button back light). Very useful when using the PDA in the dark.

I mapped one of my push-hold hardware key presses to turn the lights off. The lights come on again as soon as you do something that alters the light state (plug in power, change the screen brightness, switch the thing off then on, etc.

Another useful tip is to configure another push-hold hardware button to rotate the screen. I use this all the time and saves a lot of hassle - it also works when you're running TomTom...

SoftX FTP client from softx.org - a free, simple ftp client. Very effective.

Noni GPSPlot - *free* GPS tracking software - this is really good tracking software that I sometimes play with. It is available from http://aeguerre.free.fr

I have this mapped to my GPS hardware button!

PocketXpdf - read PDF documents for free!

WiFiFoFum - a WiFi 'wardriving' package - detects WiFi hotspots

PortSplitter - Split a hardware port (GPS, for example) so that more than one app can access it at a time. You could run NoniGPS and TomTom concurrently from you built in GPS hardware!

Oh. I nearly forgot - probably the most significant thing I did with my N560 was to install the Broadcom Bluetooth stack to replace the rather pathetic MS one. Again, there's a thread on 4winmobile that will get you to the appropriate software. It makes a *huge* difference to the functionality of the Bluetooth interface - Obex Push for example, which allows you to transfer contacts from a mobile phone to your N560 - the standard stack won't do this!

Microsoft Reader - an ebook reader (there are other packages out there too). I downloaded some free ebooks to keep me occupied...

Now that I think about all this, I should probably put all these details (and more) succinctly on a web page somewhere...

Finally, one of the best resources is this web site - I got lots of very useful help, advice, pointers from 4winmobile - enough to make me sign up!

If you have any problems finding the software I've mentioned, either ask here, or ask me and I can either find you the original links, or I can forward you the software - so long as the licencing allows me to do this legally...

Good luck.

Kind regards,

Andy B.
