Re: Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket LOOX T830 Review
good morning. this is my first post here. i enjoyed the thorough review and i appreciate it.
however, i have 2 inquiries:
-we see that the loox T830 is missing few feaures as some pointed out here so is there any other FS product looming in the near future which can rectify some of the defecencies on this phone? the phone is great and i saw it in the exhibition and it felt very solid but how about a bigger screen+ hsdpa and business card reader etc..
-there are few other phones which have been simultaneously released such as eten x500, asus 535, gigabyte320, HTC hermes which will be GPS enabled, so when comparing, what do most here think of the advantages of the T830 against the other afforementioned models? i know its a bit of a very general question as most would have different preferences for features but if you had the choice, which phone would you go for?
thanks.

Re: Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket LOOX T830 Review
I actually like the design of this, but the 240x240 screen bugs me… Why did they decide to do that? Anyone know? It seems that the standard is 320x240…

It's a difficult one, as an owner of both the Xda Orbit and the T830 which can be preferred. The T830 does lack the larger screen but if one does not use a lot of today applets then one can quite quickly get used to the smaller screen.
For me though going forward FSC need to incorporate teh following to make it a real winner:
- larger screen, even 480 x 480 would be better
- AGPS - i.e. satnav updates over GPRS
- AKU3.x+ to give the benefits of smart dialing, etc
If it had those it would beat the Artemis hands down. At the moment I swap between the two devices every couple of days.

Re: Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket LOOX T830 Review
Thanks for this great review !!
I have one question about your experiences about battery / operating time using WLAN ?
I am thinking about using this device using Skype over the day because being a lot away from my PC / being outside near hot-spots.
Could you perhaps provide some experiences how many hours the T830 will run having WLAN and perhaps Skype connected ?
Or is there a kind of standby with WLAN in power save modus ??
Thanks a lot !!
Best wishes
Jo.
P.S. Is there a place to get those very special information about different devices ??

Re: Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket LOOX T830 Review
I am seriously considering purchasing this. I am currently using an Imate PPC phone, running 2003. I like this device because it has everything I want (better camera, built in wifi, built in keyboard, built in GPS, SD card). There are two hesitations I have. One is regarding the GPS - I don't know if this device will be compatible with the gps software I use, which is mapopolis. I've already purchased tons of maps w/ mapopolis and am familiar with it. The other issue is just whether or not i'll like this device...I thought it was perfect, but it soundsl like there are a few negative remarks about the screen size (which mapoplis told me it would not be a problem - their concern is more regarding whether or not the device provides a com port # for the software to access the gps data).
any advice?

Jo - I'm not a Skype user I'm afraid guys so can't offer any details on how it runs with Skype permanently running.
One thing I have noticed is that between the review and now the battery life seems to be decreasing.
If I turn the machine on and leave it in standby mode on the desk, if I go back to it 5 minutes later the battery is down to 98%. This is with the device completely on standby, no WiFi on, so SIM even in the machine and BT turned off.
I'll be contacting Clove soon to see if the battery may have developed a fault.
completelyhis - The machine does have a virtual COM port set up as it is running WM5.0 but as I've no access to Mapopolis I can't verify if it will work or not I'm afraid.

Re: Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket LOOX T830 Review
This looks just like what I'm looking for. Does anyone know what cell phone carriers will work with this phone? Will Verizon in Denver work?
thanks!

Re: Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket LOOX T830 Review
It should work with any carrier that uses the gsm/gprs, having a Sim card. I ordered the phone and have no reason it won't work with Tmobile, my carier.

Yep, completely unlocked and will indeed work with any carrier!

Does Verizon have SIM cards as well? are they a GSM network as well, I thought they were EVDO or something like that?
