Pass on that one I'm afraid, I've no idea what system Verizon use.

I'm hearing rumours though that FSC are preparing a more up to date ROM with AKU3.xx in there which should address some of my issues with the device.

But I'll believe it when I see it as FSC are not known for regular ROM updates.

I believe that Verizon use CDMA, not GSM, so this phone will not work on Verizon. However I could be wrong, so the best advice is to ask them which sort of network they have.

Re: Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket LOOX T830 Review

Well, I got the device, I LOVE IT. The battery seems to be holding very well, and once I get used to the differences between windows mobile 2003 and version 5, I am really enjoying this device. I do have one major hangup still, and I'm hoping I can resolve it. It is with the BT headset. I Have two headsets I have tried with it, neither is working the way it should. The one I used w/ my imate pocketpc phone was a GN6210, made by the business division of Jabra. It is a great headset. The other one is the Motorola H500. Here's what's happening:

When I pair them, they both show up as Hands free devices. I'm thinking that is the only profile both these headsets support? I'm fairly certain that the Loox T830 supports both the hands free profile and the bt headset profile.

The problem is that I can't get the BT headset to function propperly. If I get an incoming call, the headset doesn't ring. if I place a call, it doesn't send it to the headset. I have tried tap/hold on the headset name and select "connect" and it puts the BT icon (upsidedown horse shoe type) in the title bar, but it disappears as soon as the phone times out, and I turn it back on.

If I'm on a call, I can switch it to the headset by doing a press and hold on the headset mfb, but that's about it.

with mobile 2003, I used to just wear my headset all the time, the phone would ring, i'd answer it with the headset, etc. I really liked that. Please, PLEASE tell me it doesn't have to be like this!
do I need a different headset? Do I need to do something different with the config?

Very very strange, I used the machine with my Jabra 500 and had no problems at all. When I get the chance I'll run some more tests as I've just recently rebuild the machine and will come back to you with the results.

Re: Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket LOOX T830 Review

I'd be curious to know what profile your Jabra 500 was set up with in the T830. Also, I noticed another difference between wm5 and pocket pc 2003 - the BlueTooth wireless indicator stop blinking when the T830 powers itself off, this never happened with my Imate (PPC2003). I imagine that the two are related, which is why it looses its connection with the headset - is there a setting I can change to fix it?

I tested this very briefly yesterday and handsfree is the option that came up for me. I did note that I had a few problems until I turned the profile on to carkit, so it may be worth you trying to turn that profile on and see if it makes a difference?

Pardon my ignorance, but how did you turn on the car kit profile?

Re: Fujitsu-Siemens Pocket LOOX T830 Review

I found the method of holding down the red button, then scrolling down the options and putting the check mark on it. It did the trick, with the Motorola, but the GN620 keeps reporting, "no supported services" when I try to pair it...problem with the device, maybe?

Well, I'm definitely in love with this device. I just realized that wm5 supports custom ringtones for each contact. I had created an mp3 ringtone as a clip, using cool edit. i forget the specs, but it was a small, mono file. it worked. then i set about creating others, for specific groups of contacts (family, wife, friends, etc). i created them as mp3s, copied them to a directory i created on the device in "my documents" and now i can't get them to show up on the drop down menu as available ring tones. so, i created them as wma, same thing, then created them as wav, same thing. then i tried placing them in the windows directory as, wav files, using the exact same specs as the ones that did show up as available (which were in the windows directory). they still don't show as available in the drop down, even after a reboot. what's the secret?!

Glad you found how to turn on the car-kit profile, it did get me stuck for a while

I don't use a lot of varied ring tones, but for them to be recognised they have to be in the ..\Windows\Rings\ directory, so copy them in to that location and see if that solves the problem for you!
