Re: Windows Mobile 6 for my Imate SP5m

I think it may be unlikely that these older Smartphones will receive a WM6 upgrade, hopefully I'm wrong, but I do think it highly unlikely.. Sorry...

Cool Re: Windows Mobile 6 for my Imate SP5m

Check XDA-Developers. They have a working version.

Tornado - xda-developers

Re: Windows Mobile 6 for my Imate SP5m

I can vouch for this as I installed it on my wifes O2 IQ (Tornado Noble) just a couple of days ago. It's quite a lengthy process as upgrades go but I didn't have any issues. It's interesting to note that some of the guides have an incorrect version of the application unlocking section at the beginning which don't work on a completely virgin machine. If you're going to do this and need any help let me know and I'll give you a hand.

Cool Re: Windows Mobile 6 for my Imate SP5m

After upgrading and using it a while, I find the upgrade to be much better than what was on it originally. It's like the phone is supercharged!

Before the upgrade, I can safely say that this is the most reliable phone that I've ever used. Now with this upgrade, it's only better!

Initial impressions is that the phone overall is very stable and fast. Everything works as advertised. Even Skype works extremely well (c'mon Skype! Fix the Hermes version!!!)

I'm just surprised that on the Tytn with double the cpu speed, the performance and quality is utterly useless!

Orb streaming works very well and all apps perform beautifully.

One issue that I noticed is that if the BT is left on and you shutdown or reboot, when it comes back up, the Comm manager seems to freeze. Initially, I thought the phone was screwed, but after waiting about 5 minutes, the BT and Comm Manager resumed normally. So, for you guys out there, make sure you turn off BT before shutdown or restart.

Overall, very impressed! A must upgrade to reinvigorate your SP5!

Re: Windows Mobile 6 for my Imate SP5m

Dave,

I'm struggling with this u/g.

Do I have to unlock the SP5m in anyway first? Had you already done that before I bought it from you?

Iam a little apprehensive that the pic shows an SP5 not SP5m. Is it suitable?

Ta....

Re: Windows Mobile 6 for my Imate SP5m

Hi Tony,

Yep, the SP5m is fine, although you'll need to install the SP5m keymap file rather than the SP5 keymap.

I found this guide to be the best. It's step by step.

Kar Hoe's Blog - [GUIDE] Upgrading HTC Tornado to Windows Mobile 6

You'll need to:

Application Unlock,
Super CID,
Wipe the radio,
Install a custom radio,

only THEN can you install WM6.

.....but it's not as hard as it sounds, and the guide I've linked to above is very good.
