Running ubook under wine

Sorry if this is off topic for this thread, but anyone else having troubles running ubook under wine? I've used ubook for years and only just started to use Linux. Ubook runs, but crashes about 1/3 of the way through the book.

I'm sure that it's a issue with wine rather than ubook which is why I hesitated to start a thread, but clearly others use both ubook and Linux.

Re: PDF to Html Converter

Thanks DoctorWkt.
I will try it this week and let you know if I succeed (I am only a Linux newbie).

JonSpence, I think Ubook with Wine could certainly deserves its own thread, especially if the process is not easy (it could later turned into a tutorial).

As for myself I never tried it as I only read ebook on my Windows Mobile smartphone and with an e-ink reader.

I've got uBook under Wine on FreeBSD 6. I page forwarded through about six ebooks last night and got thru to the end of all of them. Mind you, I haven't read a full ebook properly with uBook under Wine (a page every 20 seconds or so), so there could be some time-based issue.

I could forward on my uBook config and perhaps the Wine config it that's of any help.

Re: Running ubook under wine

Thanks for the help. The problem seems more interesting. On reading that you had tried a number of ebooks with no problems I started going through some of my library.

Ubook is handling rtf with no problem. The issue that I described happened with a pdb book. It happens at the same point every time in that pdb book. It also occurs in another pdb book but is NOT as I though memory related as the next pdb book displayed to the end.

A quick solution for me is simply not to use that format, but I'm curious as to why the same software fails when run on the wine API but doesn't under windows. All that I can think is that it's something to do with different formatting characters. The books concerned do contain words like _this_ when read under windows.

Re: Running ubook under wine

Interesting, as the use of the OS is quite limited (not enough for me yet but still). And the PDB module doesn't call Windows at all. It could be a small stack overflow or something that isn't handled the same in Windows and Wine. If you can isolate the problem data and/or point me to a freely accessible crashing PDB file, that could help me try this one out.
Thanks,

Thanks,
First sorry for not picking up this reply sooner. I've attempted to find a good example for you and failed. The original ebook was bought from Fictionwise and I don't actually know EXACTLY what format I downloaded only that it had a pdb extention. In an attempt to recreate the issue I have downloaded the same file again in ereader, palm doc and isolo forms which all save as pdb (They kindly allow you to download stuff that you bought again).

Ubook doesn't open the isolo that I downloaded (I'm not sure if you support it or not), however the other two formats work fine.

I sugest that you forget about my problem report unless another person has a symilar fault.

Thanks for the willingnes to help though.
