Re: Buffalo Linkstation Live
The manual mentions the linktheatre specifically but it is supposed to pick up any itunes protocol media server so it will be interesting to see if it can pick up my Roku.
My thoughts are to use the built-in media centre as one library and my media pc as a second and split the library into an archive and a current listening (old favourites and new content) library.
It will need careful planning and testing though as my main library is WMP and tjat uses a data base rather than the tags and I do not want to have to rebuild.
Should be fun

Re: Buffalo Linkstation Live
Sorry for my absence last night I was playing.
Quick update before I settle down and write something up.
A lot smaller than I was expecting - the picture makes it look like a black Xbox which it is but a lot smaller.
Powered up and found an IP address and set up to network time no problems.
Management seems simple but permissions took a bit of doing. Tried to join it to the domain but although it showed the web screen to enter all the details it was only a flash before showing the basic page again and could not set it up. In the end gave up and set up using workgroup settings.
Not that much of an issue as one of the reasons for getting this is so that I can turn off my Domain and shut down the servers as do not really need them anymore (and they do eat electric).
However, the music / media sharing was instant and spot on.
Will have a couple more days play and then do a write up.

Re: Buffalo Linkstation Live
Moved a BIG chunk of music across over the w/e and instantly lost its viewability on other Pcs. Looked like it was only showing so many and then not the rest.
Finmally got everything back on to the original PC last night and.... still cannot could not see them. After hours of searching I checked teh event logs (I know, I know should have checked first). The system log was full of errors about a symbollic link to a jpg file. So as it was an URL copied an pasted it into IE and it played a song. After repeatedly exttracting the URLS I found 3 music files and once deleted everything is back. Also deleted 24 OGG/m4a files and the library and the shared views are just 2 out - I WILL find the difference but with 18500 and lookling for 2 is not easy. But I know they are 1985/rock so just need to fine tune and I can get back to reviewingf this

Re: Buffalo Linkstation Live
Nasty- is this a fault in the Buffalo software or the Windows file system?

Re: Buffalo Linkstation Live
I have a feeling it was a nasty little gotcha that has been hiding in the system (windows). Moving the files just brought it to the surface.
I will be starting again tonight but will be moving chunks across and keeping a strict count to keep check.
