Angry Windows Live email and Outlook 2003

I just set up a free windows live email account and would like to integrate it within the Personal Folders within Outlook 2003. I set up the new email account within Outlook using the latest Outlook Connector plugin but the account appears as a seperate folder NOT under the personal folders list. I've been messing with this for quite some time today. Since this is a webmail email account, is what I'm doing possible?

I've been pulling what little hair I left out!!

I'm not sure what you mean by a seperate folder and not in personal folders? All Personal Folders are is seperate folders called "Personal Folders".

Re: Windows Live email and Outlook 2003

I believe inspector_g is saying that the email isn't going into INBOX of the personal folders. It is going into Inbox of separate account (Live Mail).

Isn't this the expected behaviour?

The only way I can see to get ALL your mail into the standard Inbox would be to forward your Live Mail.

Re: Windows Live email and Outlook 2003

Thanks FirstBuddha, you confirmed what I suspected. The Personal Folders list contains my regular email, contacts and diary all of which syncs with whichever device I'm using at the time. If you use the Outlook Connector Plugin to create a new email account ie; Win Live Mail, the account appears outside the Personal Folders List with seperate contacts and diary etc. which does not sync with my device... I'd rather the information in the Personal Folders list sync with Live Mail.

I suppose that this is because Live Mail is a webmail based account...

The idea behind getting a Live Mail account is to completely replace my regular 'paid for' hosting email. I don't appear to be able to do this.....ah well, time to cough up 50 squids...

Thanks Firstbuddha / Wavey!

Re: Windows Live email and Outlook 2003

hang on though -

if you set up Live Mail from Outlook on the PC it won't sync. Correct.
BUT, if you set up Live Mail on your DEVICE then it will sync to the online server.

To setup sync between Outlook/Live Mail and you mobile device, check out Windows Live Mobile (Windows Live for Windows Mobile released - v10.6.0042.1900). It will also sync your contacts

No, this isn't right. I don't have a Personal Folder section at all in my Outlook. I have Mailbox - then my name. I'm not sure what's going on with yours. Have you got a PST file that your Outlook is opening with all your stuff in?

What should happen is that Live Mail SHOULD create a new account outside the Personal Folders section, then you import your old PST into the Live Mail section, then you delete the Personal Folders bit, then you sync your device. You have to be REALLY careful though, the potential for mistakes and losing data is very high.

Re: Windows Live email and Outlook 2003

Wavey - is that with Outlook 2003?

I agree with LiveMail creating the folder outside of Personal Folders - with its own Inbox, but if you import you PST to the LiveMail section, won't that then sync back the the LiveMail/Hotmail server??

Wouldn't it be easier for the user to try the Windows Live CAB file to setup Hotmail/LiveMail sync direct to device?

Yes, but surely you'd want all your old contacts, calendars and mails sync'd anyway wouldn't you?

Re: Windows Live email and Outlook 2003

Re: Windows Live email and Outlook 2003

Could I export my contacts to a CSV file (500 contacts), re-install Outlook 2003, set up the Live Mail account as the only account and then import the contacts back? Would this work? The information would all be contained in a new Outlook.pst file.

I don't see the benefit of paying £50 a year for a NT hosting package when I can get a free Live Mail account....

Thanks!
