Re: Vista Disk Space
Thanks Neil, something weird is going on, the PC is down to 9Gb free this morning, that's from 66Gb free last night, so I am mystified as to what is going on here...
I'll take another look...

Re: Vista Disk Space
Running Disk Cleanup and keeping only the most recent restore point has pushed my free disk space back up to 125Gb... Still not sure what is using the rest at the moment!!

Re: Vista Disk Space
Okay, I think I'm up to speed now. Volume Shadow Copy is on, there is a previous version of the system disk in the list, so I'm assuming that is double the size of the disk at 162Gb, so the C drive must be at 80Gb, which sounds about right, although I will check... There is a previous version set at midnight last night!! Kind of a giveaway...
Thanks for the tip Neil!!

Re: Vista Disk Space
That SequoiaView is pretty good, I've just installed it and immediately found 10Gb of rubbish downloaded in a TVersity directory. It's a great way to visualise the disk. It says it's an XP version but appears to run perfectly under Vista... Excellent tip Neil!!

Re: Vista Disk Space
Glad your getting there Jim I got caught by the Shadow Copy stuff whenI got my current PC- every major change I made seemed to cause a full system copy, so the free space just vanished!
I found SequoiaView quite recently, and it does seem to work well!

Re: Vista Disk Space
Yes- I use an external drive with a disc image anyway, plus an incremental backup, so I don't want Windows grabbing unnecessary main drive space

I got a free copy of Macrium Reflect (old version) on a PC Pro CD a few months back- it's on this months as well- which does disc imaging and file level backup/restore with the usual Differential/Incremental options.
Macrium also do a free version of their current build which only does imaging, but which can mount an existing image as a volume in File Explorer for individual file restoration.

Re: Vista Disk Space
I think I'll pop out and buy a copy, although I do have homeserver protecting this PC so I guess I could just turn off the Volume Shadow Copy...
