PC BT Dongle
Wel now I've got the Moto S9 HD's I thoiught it'd be easy to get a BT dongle for the PC. After all all one needs is ideally:
- Small size
- A2DP features
- EDR
- Decent range
- Windows 7 compliancy
Easy? No..... I've spent most of the morning looking at dongles on Scan, eXpansys, etc. Most only list Vista complaincy and very few have A2DP never mind the rest of the features.
About the best I can find are:
Only the first two list most of the specs needed - buy LM Technologies - never heard of them!
Any recommendations?

Re: PC BT Dongle
I didn't think the dongle needed to be A2DP, I thought the PC had to drive that? I've had no problems connecting headphones to my lappy which has BT built in??
I need to get me a new pair of S9's...

Re: PC BT Dongle
Have you not thought of an onboard bluetooth solution for the PC Daron? I have onboard bluetooth and after installing Windows 7 the bluetooth icon showed up in the taskbar and works perfectly, no need to install any drivers at all. I have had the onboard bluetooth since XP so I wouldn't worry about compatibilty issues too much, and all in stereo too through my S9s.
Try Laird Technologies and see if they have anything compatible.

Re: PC BT Dongle
For £7.50 I'd just try it. How much was your PC?

Re: PC BT Dongle
From what I can see all the Laird BT solutions are not suitable for mounting in a PCI(e) slot so no good there.
The LM505 is tempting though as it does support: SPP, GAP, HSP, DUN, PAN, LAN, HID, FAX, SYNC, FTP, HCRP, A2DP, AVRCP, BIP, GEOP, SDAP, OPP which is a goodly number of profile types! And as you say it is cheap enough and small too!
Datasheet attached.

Re: PC BT Dongle
Hi MIke, it's the:
ASUS P6T DELUXE V2: DDR3, 2-Way SLI & CrossFireX on Demand
Interestingly enough today I popped down to Maplin to see what hey had in, dongles galore but with no specification at all so I did not buy anything.
Anyway from there I decide to go through my 'bit boxes' as I hve had Bluetooth dongles in the past. I turned up two dongles.
The first was a generic MS freebie from about 2 years ago, and the second a way old TDK dongle from about 6 years ago.
I tried the MS dongle first, that enabled Bluetooth, but no drivers for the S9's were viable as the dongle carried limited services.
The TDK adaptor which supported more services works, and has the S9's working but as it is not strictly fully supported the sound cuts out from tiem to time.
This proves that you do need the hardware profiles on the dongle to get the msot of out things as I originally thought. So as the eXpansys mini dongle supports all the services I need I'll be ordering it shortly, go to be better than both the dongles I have.
Attachments show the tale through trying both adaptors.

Re: PC BT Dongle
They could well be, but they still need to be able to carry the right profiles for the services needed. A list of the total number of profiles is show here, but as far as I'm aware dongle do NOT have to carry all of them.
The one I'm looking to purchase supports:
- Service Port Profile (SPP) defines how to set-up virtual serial ports and connect two Bluetooth enabled devices
- GAP??
- Headset Profile (HSP) describes how a Bluetooth enabled headset should communicate with a Bluetooth enabled device
- Dial-Up Network Profile (DUN) provides a standard to access the Internet and other dial-up services via Bluetooth technology.
- Personal Area Networking Profile (PAN) describes how two or more Bluetooth enabled devices can form an ad-hoc network and how the same mechanism can be used to access a remote network through a network access point
- LAN?
- Human Interface Device Profule (HID) defines the protocols, procedures and features to be used by Bluetooth HID such as keyboards, pointing devices, gaming devices and remote monitoring devices
- Fax Profile (FAX) defines how a FAX gateway device can be used by a terminal device.
- Synchronization Profile (SYNC) used in conjunction with GOEP to enable synchronization of calendar and address information (personal information manager (PIM) items) between Bluetooth enabled devices
- File Transfer Profile (FTP) defines how folders and files on a server device can be browsed by a client device.
- Hard Copy Cable Replacement Profile (HCRP) defines how driver-based printing is accomplished over a Bluetooth wireless link
- Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) describes how stereo quality audio can be streamed from a media source to a sink.
- Audio / Video Control Transport Protocol (AVRCP) is designed to provide a standard interface to control TVs, hi-fi equipment, or other to allow a single remote control (or other device) to control all the A/V equipment to which a user has access.
- Basic Imaging Profile (BIP) defines how an imaging device can be remotely controlled, how an imaging device may print, as well as how an imaging device can transfer images to a storage device
- Generic Object Profile (GOEP) is used to transfer an object from one device to another
- Service Discovery Application Profile (SDAP) describes how an application should use SDP to discover services on a remote device.
- Object Push Profile (OPP) defines the roles of push server and push client.
The TDK device in use is specified as:
- Bluetooth Compliant with open standard Bluetooth 1.1
- Bluetooth Profile supported GAP, SDAP, SPP, DUN, FTP, OBEX, FAX, Bluetooth Synchronisation and LAP (Multi-point supported).
- 3 SCO channels
- Bluetooth power class: 2
- Software language support DEFIGS
- Microsoft Bluetooth Driver Compatible (expected soon)
- Interoperable with all major Bluetooth manufacturers, including Ericsson, Nokia, Inventel, RedM, Axis, 3Com, Palm, Compaq.
- Maximum RF output power 2.5mW (4dBm), Normal RF 1mW (0dBm)
- PC Compatibility: Windows 98 Second Edition/ Me/ 2000/ XP (Pentium Processor, 64M RAM, 20MB free Hard drive space, USB 1.1 Port
- Integrated Antenna
- CSR Chip set
- Range: Up to 50 metres free space
So the new dongle has to be an improvement!

Re: PC BT Dongle
It's all lost me! I guess the built in bluetooth on the lappies has those profiles... I'll have to check out the dongle later...
