Remote desktop has stopped working :(

My laptop started playing up yesterday, win7 x64 ultimate, giving a couple of "windows manager has stopped working" messages

i've isolated the problem, i think, as the laptop is only crashing when i try to use remote desktop.

basically if i click the remote desktop program or try and connect to my other pc's by right clicking and choosing remote desktop when in file explorer the thing just freezes.

google is coming up a blank.

it worked fine up until yesterday and is working fine on my other pc's, i thought it might have had something to do with the patches on tuesday but i guess it can't be as the others are working.

anyone got any ideas on a fix?

i'm wondering if there is a way to uninstall/reinstall it?

i seem to only have one restore point dated at 1830 yesterday which is too late i think.

now says my disk is corrupt so have to disk check first.

In older Windows versions I know that activating programs from Explorer triggered addins that could behave differently to the basic program. Not sure if this is true for Win7. However you might like to try launching Remote Desktop from the programs list instead, to see if it makes a difference.

system restore made no difference and neither did launching it from the program list.

methinks it will be quicker to backup and do a fresh install as i've had a couple of bsod's as well now.

I think you will be better off reinstalling, I had to in the end when Windows explorer went awol in Vista. I spent hours of wasted time chasing my own tail!

i think you're right about chasing your tail. i wouldn't know where to start to fix it and a reinstall is pretty quick from usb

bit of a pain but in the long run it will be worth it.

this laptop was tri booting vista, win7 and osx but i deleted the vista partition to free up some space.

i've noticed that the win7 install is on an extended partition (no idea why mind you) and i'd prefer it on the first partition.

i've backed up win7 and osx and now i'm gonna fry the thing and start again with win7 on one partition, snow leopard on another and one for data to be used by both.

If it was a weird and wonderful dual boot system then I'll agree with the wipe and rebuild mate.

Might be well worth considering a WHS for the future though?
