Re: O2 XDA Orbit WM6 Upgrade FAQ

This sounds like the SIM Card isn't inserted correctly if the PPC part of the device is fine.

I would turn off and take out the SIM Card, re-insert and firmly make sure the SIM Holder is slid into the locking position.

Let us know....

Re: O2 XDA Orbit WM6 Upgrade FAQ

Most useful site indeed.

I have a question that I cant seem to get an answer for. If I perform the WM6 upgrade and discover that i don’t like it then will I be able to return to my WM5 (presently on the phone).

I am a bit worried that after the upgrade my tom tom navigator 5 will no longer work.
cheers

Re: O2 XDA Orbit WM6 Upgrade FAQ

Hi ilovemyprobe, welcome to 4WM!

Covering the last point first....

TTN V5 should work fine as the u/g doesn't change the device id.

Rolling back shouldn't be an issue as original WM5 roms are out there if you feel the need, which I doubt you will!

Re: O2 XDA Orbit WM6 Upgrade FAQ

Variation to the theme. At the point that the Progress Bar appeared and the screen on the Orbit displayed the three (or four) broad horizontal coloured bands my PC decided to drop the USB and recognize new hardware. Update programme also dropped out at that point too.

Bit of an oh sh.t moment.

Fortunately rerunning the .exe pick went through all the steps as described in the FAQ, only difference being that no ROM image was listed for the device.

Anyway, thought might be worth mentioning for anyone else that gets a surprise along the way.

Hi Meltemi and welcome to you.

The problem you had probably seemed quite unnerving, but there are built in safety factors to help you. Thanks for the feedback on it.

Re: O2 XDA Orbit WM6 Upgrade FAQ

Hey this is a fantastic guide, so thank you...also all the emoicons are officially Christmassey!

Prior to me uograding my Orbit to WM6 (im hoping it fixes sync issues with my bluetooth car stereo) I wanted to ask a couple of things. My orbit is running:

WM5 with teh messaging and Security Feature Pack.
OS 5.1.342 (Build 15096.3.0.0)

Rom version: 1.25.206.w WWE
Rom Date: 10/4/06
Radio Version 02.67.90
Protocol version 4.1.13.28
ExtROM version: 1.25.206.101

The thing I like about my o2 orbit is the o2 custom Today plug-in Settings. I use this plug in to show the last call, the o2 calendar (which I immensely prefer to WM calendar), shortcuts and running apps.

If I goto WM6 am i going to loe the 02 custom plug in...given that the rom i download will be from the o2 site. Is there a version of WM6 with the o2 customisation that provides the today plug in? ....

Many Thanks
Graham

Re: O2 XDA Orbit WM6 Upgrade FAQ

Hi gaham- welcome to 4WM and glad you like the site!

I suspect the O2 WM6 ROM for the Orbit retains their home screen customisations, but I'm sure someone who's tried will confirm or deny this!

I'm pretty sure Neilm is correct in that O2 have retained the customisation.

It would get installed AFTER the ROM update. Once the device starts after the upgrade you will have to do the usual WM things such as screen alignment etc. When you get the WM message to 'tap the screen to begin using your device', the O2 customisations should then start so don't switch off or reset the device if you want them installed.....
