Re: O2 XDA Orbit WM6 Upgrade FAQ

Thanks again for the help Boz, the Orbit arrived and I upgraded it to WM6 without any problems (via Windows mobile device center on Vista), then used the Vodafone Cab file - all works perfectly.

Question Re: O2 XDA Orbit WM6 Upgrade FAQ

Hi there,

I know this is a bit late in the day and this thread has been quiet for AGES, but anyone know how I can upgrade my Orbit to WM6? I was just given one for free and it still has WM5 on it and I'd like to upgrade. I've seen the German upgrade on here, but want an English version. I've also seen links to an old HTC free upgrade, but that's expired... anyone still got the original install file for the English WM6?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers
Alex

Re: O2 XDA Orbit WM6 Upgrade FAQ

Hi x3ja- welcome to 4WM

There is a list of available ROM's Here on XDA Developers. It includes the HTC WM6 version and the Rapidshare link is still valid.

If you want to try a modified ROM, there's a list Here

Make sure you have loaded HardSPL before any ROM flashing or the device may become inoperable.

Ahah, finally a link with all the information in it! I'd been going through all the forums here & there and not found anything so useful. Thanks!

One other (newbie) question... I get that ROM updates remove your personal data (contacts etc), but do they also remove your installed programs? I have one program (ALK CoPilot) that I don't have the install disk for and don't want to lose it...

Re: O2 XDA Orbit WM6 Upgrade FAQ

It does remove apps. It, basically, puts it in a "factory fresh" condition. You should be able to download CoPilot home from the ALK website. Once the ROM has been flashed, connect it to the PC and then run CoPilot home. It should detect the device and install the latest version of the software for you - assuming you still have the license key, of course!

Re: O2 XDA Orbit WM6 Upgrade FAQ

Yes- a ROM update is the same as a hard reset in that it deletes all your user files and programs and reverts the device to the 'factory' state of whichever ROM you are using.

Presumably CoPilot is on your storage card? It ought to be still present after the ROM update, but make sure you remove the card during the process. CoPilot uses a folder called 2577 to automatically reinstall when the card is inserted.

As you are keeping the same device, your CoPilot ID should remain the same, but to be sure you can run CoPilot and use the facility to deregister it from the device; once updated and reinstalled just run the activation again and it will be re-registered on the device.

And just to repeat my previous warning- make sure your Orbit is CID unlocked with HardSPL before attempting any ROM updates. Details Here
