Another interesting factoid: CDMA was originally developed by the US military for secure communications. If you don't know what 'scrambling' codes are being used, if you try to eavesdrop, all you hear is radio noise.
Wikipedia has *loads* of stuff on these technologies, but be warned, understanding the radio technologies that enable you to download the latest Britney Spears video, or Chelsea goal videos will make your head hurt!
