Re: Is GPS a major deciding factor in device choice?
I've voted must have, but that is overstating the case slightly. If there were a device that otherwise met my needs better than the competition but didn't have GPS, then I would buy that device and a bluetooth GPS. So it's a major factor in purchase decision, but could be outweighed by others.

My car has a built-in navigation system, despite that I bought a device with built-in GPS. Redundant? Yes and no. Yes because I don't need the device GPS for driving; No because I need it for walking, biking, and route planning when not in tHe car. Also, I am one to buy a device with all the bells and whistles for bragging rights!

Welcome to 4WM chike99, you sound like you will fit right in around here. And beware, keeping up the bells and whistles habit at the pace of some members can be mighty expensive.
If I used a car more than once a month I might do the same as you, but with my main mode of transport being bicycle then portable GPS is what I need.

Re: Is GPS a major deciding factor in device choice?
Having had built in GPS in my kaiser for awhile now, i would never go back to an external GPS reciever. Its just so much easier and neater to slap my phone into its cradle and turn it on, rather than having to plug my GPS reciever in, bluetac it to the dash, plug the phone in, turn the bluetooth on etc etc.

Re: Is GPS a major deciding factor in device choice?
I'm pretty much sold on the convenience of the in-built solution to the extent that I use it in preference to the Navigation in my car!
Add to that the flexibility of being able to use it ouside of the vehicle and that seals it for me....

Re: Is GPS a major deciding factor in device choice?
Was up in london yesterday and wanted to check where the nearest tube station was after leaving a customer. Just fired up google maps on my kaiser and hit the GPS button and i could see exactly where i was, tubes and all. Sooooo easy!
Also watched 6 episodes of Heroes on it to pass the time on the train

That was a long train ride, 6 x 45 minutes! Did the GPS work in the train?

Integrated GPS all the way for me. Not having to use a seperate GPS receiver (and keep it charged) is a major plus.

Its about 2 hours on the train into london for me, then 30 mins on the tube to get where i was going. Same coming back so plenty of time to catch up on my sci-fi viewing as the mrs cant stand sci-fi. Always turns a few heads watching a vid on my phone, then taping the screen and sending a text, then back to the action! The Kaiser is great with the tilting screen, prefect viewing angle
Didnt think to try the GPS on the train, would have been interesting to see what tomtom made of that route!
