Yeah, it's funny to keep looking at the same reply from yourself!! Exchange is working fine, although I do get invalid certificate occasionally, not had time to track it down!

Ya ofcourse GPS according to me is a major deciding factor for device choice since through GPS we are able to know our exact position and we can also find our way by using it..

We live in the information age. So GPS is really important for me.

Re: Is GPS a major deciding factor in device choice?

After traveling the world with the Kaiser and the Touch Pro, HTC/Qualcomm's GPSone basically taught me it's better to get something separate.

With the built-in, it would drain the battery, over-heat the phone, reboot the phone often due to the stress, have major problems getting signal due to the undersized GPS antenna, lag and locking issues due to the undersized antenna, and basically life-threatening due to the poor GPS performance which changes between ROM/radio releases.

However, once I switched to an external BT GPS (QStartz Q-1000X for instance) with these same phones, it works transparently as long as I've set up the "External GPS" settings, battery drain isn't an issue anymore, overheating doesn't happen so I don't have to hold the phone to a A/C vent anymore, I can get signal in a train/bullet train/cruise ship/inside buildings/etc, I have the opposite problem of GPS wandering even when stationary instead of lag, really good nav response from Garmin and Navizon, and data trails that can be exported to Google Maps/Earth.

Only nits is the external GPS only lasts a week on a charge, and I have to manually download AGPS data, if I want faster locks (I could just leave it on and not turn it off and not lose lock instead).

So, that's my take on converged GPS, esp with HTC/Qualcomm devices.

Yeah, strangely enough, the main problem with external (bluetooth) GPS receivers got sorted about the time everyone switched to internal GPS chips. The older bluetooth protocols were horribly power hungry so having a permanent connection to a bluetooth receiver would kill your battery. If I'm going out for a really long walk, I will stick my bluetooth receiver in the top of my rucksack but, to be honest, the convenience of having it built-in means that is quite rare now. I have a nice, slim external battery to keep the phone topped up whilst I'm out in the hills and I always have a spare phone with me just in case.

I see that I missed out on that fun, and at least internal serves your and most people's needs. I do lean on having GPS capability in the OS as a requirement for the device so I don't know if Symbian, Android, or OS X have that ability.

However, having lock, signal strength, accuracy, and independent battery (I can use external battery to refresh phone or GPS now) has also become a requirement for me.
