Re: 3G or not 3G?
I don't have 3G on my main device and that suits me just fine as the battery drain bugs the hell out of me and I don't have a great deal of use for it in any case. However I occasionally use a 3G device as a modem with my laptop and usually get HSDPA on T-Mobile wherever I am, although I have stayed at a different hotel in Ayr a few times recently and I get 2G only there.

Re: 3G or not 3G?
I leave the 3G turned on all day. As I recharge it every 2 days or so, battery drain is never much of a concern for me.

Wow, 3G on all day and charging every other day? I take it you don't use push email then?

Re: 3G or not 3G?
using autd/push here, with dashwire, occasional GPS usage and constant bluetooth use. charge every night. always use 3G/HSDPA when available.

Yup, no push email, but do d/l gmail & hotmail headers at 2 hour intervals. I'm lucky that where I live and work seem to be in a decent solid 3G area so I don't get much of the 3G/2G swapping.

Re: 3G or not 3G?
I thought as much.
The push email does tend to sap the battery a fair bit.

Re: 3G or not 3G?
ON my trinity and Diamond (3G) sometimes (H) is on all day using Pushmail etc. there have been days where I have to charge the Trinity every evening - sometimes not, but most definitely the second evening. While the diamond is charged every evening whether the device's battery is low or not.

Re: 3G or not 3G?
I used to have it on all the time but battery life was pants, so the last week I have switched it off until required, things such as connexted to my laptop as a modem and surfing this site to and from work etc, HSDPA rocks for speed but I can live with GPRS for polling gmail and the odd quick lookup on the web for train times and such like.
The other thing I now do is ue my WiFi again on my device when at home as quicker to switch on than 3G for similar speed
