Web browsers

Here at 4winmobile we all seem to have different preferences when it comes to browsing the web from our devices.

I use Pocket internet explorer with the tabbed browsing provided by SPB pocket plus as it enables me to view pages whilst others are loading.

The question is which do you use the most and why?

Have a vote and post your reasons.

Re: Web browsers

My preference is for the Netfront 3.5 version, currently still pre-release but freely available from their website.

It does all I want from a mobile browser; I particularly like the ability to pre define a number of views depending on how IO'm surfing- GPRS, 3G, WiFi etc, and the ability to link a view to a Favourite.

Page loading is quick and the scrolling/dragging very fast.

One thing that is not so welcome is that it still reports itself as a mobile browser, so some sites may not show the full site contents (4WM for instance). Suits me fine, but may not be to others tastes

Re: Web browsers

It depends. For sites with a good mobile front end I use PIE (especially for here. It works really well and is much faster using the mobile version). For websites without a mobile version (or just with a rubbish mobile version) I use the Opera built into the ROM of the Touch Cruise (v 8.65).

I must admit, though, I don't use the internet too much on the mobile. The screen is just too small. I only use a very limited number of sites and for very specific purposes.

Re: Web browsers

I have to go for 'Something Else' as my preference is Opera 8.65 too.

I find Opera 9.x too much trying to cram a full screen into a device, makes it cumbersome.

Re: Web browsers

Opera 9.5 for me at the moment which is ok to me if it is set up to your personal taste, but I have never been faithfull to a web browser to be honest as I am always chopping and changing.

Re: Web browsers

Generally I use PIE because I go to mobile sites. However I have Opera set as my default because when I use Newsbreak's RSS feeds and want to read a story I know it's going to open a PC size screen and I don't want PIE for that. On the other hand there are a couple of secure bank sites that Opera will no longer access so I use Netfront 3.5 for those.

Re: Web browsers

I mainly use Netfront 3.5, but I do use PIE as well and tend to swap back and forth!!

Re: Web browsers

I'm gonna spend some time trying to get my head around the opera 9.5 this week.

As of yet it just frustrates me (because i haven't read up on it) but it does look very good

Re: Web browsers

The only issue I have with the beta is that when I exit the application, it switches my Ameo to portrait mode. That and it resets the default keyboard.

Re: Web browsers

I use Pocket IE with the pocket plus addons and find it ok. Dont browse a lot of sites mobile as i dont often have a 3G connection so i stick to stuff i know has a good mobile interface like this one, or BBC news. I have tried opera a few times and its good, i just cant justify paying money for the little amount of time i use it.
